The Department of Gynaecology, part of the University Hospital of Erlangen, is a regional and nationwide centre of health care. The Department of Gynaecology is certified by the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG) and the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO). The first certified centre of the University Hospital Erlangen was the University Breast Centre Franconia that was certified by the German Cancer Society and the German Society of Senology, in accordance with DIN/EN/ISO in 2004. One year later, the Breast Centre was certified by the European Society of Mastology (EUSOMA). The high professional quality requirements are achieved by a specialized team of physicians, breast care nurses, study nurses, social services, psychologists, physiotherapist and more than 200 gynaecologists and general practitioners in the outpatient setting. The main objective of the University Breast Centre Franconia is quality improvement of oncological care, regional and nationwide. This is achieved by intensive interdisciplinary communication, focusing of expertise and participation in numerous national and international studies.
