Breast Center Humanitas (BCH) is an initiative of the Istituto Clinico Humanitas to offer the state-of-the-art in breast cancer care in Milan. Shortly after its inauguration in November 2008, BCH has become one of the main breast cancer referral centers in Lombardy region (north of Italy). We offer a coordinated approach by a team of experts from all fields involved in breast diseases. Our weekly Multidisciplinary Meeting (MDM) for case management discussion represents the corner stone of this approach. Our strategy is to tailor individualized treatment according to clinical stage and tumor biology. Breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is our goal with the aid of Radioguided Occult Lesion Localization (ROLL) for non-palpable lesions. When mastectomy is indicated, we offer skin-sparing mastectomy or nipple-sparing mastectomy in adequately selected cases with immediate reconstruction. Axillary staging is performed with Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy. Research is part of our mission and we carry out studies about gene microarray tests, BCS in elderly patients with/without radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, nipple-sparing mastectomy and innovative treatments for stage IV disease.
