Ospedale Evangelico Valdese - ASL TO1
  • 350 New breast cancer cases treated per year
  • 16 Breast multidisciplinarity team members
Radiologists, surgeons, pathologists, medical oncologists, radiotherapists and nurses

Our breast unit was founded in 2002. Its purpose is to offer a public service based on tested procedures, good clinical practice, warm reception, quick diagnostic steps and short hospital stay. We provide a quality course that obtained the ISO 2001 certificate. The group is formed by hospital public services and private groups under contract, and it has increased its productiveness from 5000 breast scans and 250 operations (in 2003) to 19000 and 625 (in 2010) respectively. Most procedures are performed under local anaesthesia in day surgery; general anaesthesia and one or two day admission are reserved to mastectomy, axillary dissection and breast reconstruction. Protocols on diagnostic procedures, patient information, treatment, prophylaxis, follow-up and complications are in use. In 2010 our breast unit joined the regional breast cancer screening program.
