The Breast Unit started effectively in 1997, with the main goal of better diagnosis and treatment for breast patients. In 2009 the name and status changed from Breast Unit to Breast Center - Hospital S. João, being now an independent Center with administrative and budget independence. The Center has pre-graduate and post-graduate teaching students and all specialities residents training and working within the center. Oral presentations, posters, and publications as well as clinical investigation works are also of high interests. Team members works on prognostic factors and our major investigation is on aesthetic result of breast cancer conservative treatment. We are working on the development of an objective assessment tool the BCCT.core software (http://breastcancer.up.pt/).
