The Multidisciplinary Breast Unit (Unidad Funcional de Patología de Mama) at Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid has treated and followed about 8.000 breast cancer patients since 1973. The unit follows the European Society of Mastology (EUSOMA) recommendations and is in its accreditation process. The main goals of the Unit are: to maintain and develop high quality uniformed standards in the area of diagnosis, treatment and surveillance of benign and malignant diseases of the breast, and to develop tasks of teaching and research activities. The Breast Unit is a transversal organization in the Hospital integrated by a multidisciplinary team made up of breast surgeons, plastic surgeons, gynecologists, medical oncologists, radiotherapy oncologists, nurses, nuclear especialists, pathologists, radiologist, psycho-oncologist. In our Breast Unit we assist and provide an integral treatment of the benign breast disease, as well as most of the cases of breast cancer of our health area.
