Whiston Hospital is a District General Hospital serving a population of 360,000 people in the Liverpool area, North West England. The Breast service is provided by 2 dedicated Consultant Breast Surgeons and one Associate Specialist, who are assisted by two Macmillan Breast Care Specialist Nurses. Our service is as follows: - Rapid clinics, 2/week; - Urgent clinic, 1/week; - Non urgent and follow-up clinic, 4/week; - Parallel clinic with oncologists, 2/week; - Clinical trials, 1/week; - Breast screening clinic, 1/week. The total number of breast patients seen in the clinics every year approximates 9,000, and we are currently detecting over 280 new cancers/year. A dedicated cancer counselling/complementary therapy service is provided on site at Whiston Hospital. Adjuvant treatments are collegially discussed at the multidisciplinary meetings, and provided by the Clinical Oncology Team. Chemotherapy is administered on site, while Radiation Therapy is provided at our regional Cancer Centre which is Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology. Whiston Hospital houses the Regional Burns and Plastics Unit.
